Minor Ailments and Contraception Service (MACS)

As of June 1, 2023, pharmacists can provide a consultation, assessment, and prescribe for 21 minor ailments, emergency contraception, and birth control. We recommend you book an appointment on the provincial MACS booking system, or if you have a more immediate issue, you can come to one of our 3 locations for a walk-in appointment (please call ahead for availability). The 21 minor ailments we can help you with are:

  • Allergies (allergic rhinitis)
  • Cold sores
  • Fungal infections
  • Heartburn (acid reflux)
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Headaches
  • Impetigo
  • Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • Shingles
  • Sprains and strains
  • Skin rash (dermatitis)
  • Threadworms or pinworms
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infection
  • Vaginal candidiasis (yeast infection)
  • Indigestion (upset stomach)
  • Itching, including from bug bites
  • Menstrual pain
  • Mild acne
  • Nicotine dependence
  • Oral fungal infections (thrush)
  • Oral ulcers (canker sores)

The consultation and assessment service, emergency contraception and birth control are provided at no charge to residents of BC.
